Demeter Davis

Inspired by her study of Indian philosophy as an undergraduate, Demeter attended her first Iyengar Yoga class in 1999 and commenced a home practice in 2001 using Light on Yoga as a guide. Demeter started teaching Yoga in 2003 and also completed studies in psychology at the University of Sydney. Holding these two views side by side has deepened her understanding and appreciation of yoga, and confirmed its position at the centre of Demeter’s life.

Moving to Canberra to continue teacher training with Alan, Demeter started teaching at Yoga Mandir in 2008.

Demeter is an Introductory Level 2 certified teacher.  She participates in ongoing teacher development with Alan and the Iyengar family, attending Geeta Iyengar’s retreat in Queensland in 2009, and spending her most recent month-long stay in Pune at the Ramamani memorial institute in January 2016.

Since 2008 in addition to teaching Demeter has held positions at the institute including Sadhaka and Library Project coordinators. She teaches across the Introductory to Established practitioner programs as well as a supported open class each week.

Demeter also teaches in and currently coordinates the growing children’s programs of the school.
